Officer Ferdinandi recounted the experience, stating, “At one point, he got a bit ahead of us. Witnessing the immense relief radiating from Chunk’s family upon their reunion was truly incredible. It was evident that both the dog and his family were overwhelmed with relief and joy at being together again. We share in their sense of relief and happiness knowing that the dog and his owners have been reunited.”
In a Facebook post, the New Jersey State Police provided an account of the incident:

“Officers Koehler and Ferdinandi swiftly responded in a boat and successfully located Chunk, who was found swimming near the Mantoloking Bridge. They skillfully ensured his safe retrieval onto land.” Chunk, a spirited three-year-old, had been missing for nearly a week. It goes without saying that the joy of reuniting with his grateful owners was a heartwarming sight to behold.”
