Red Dead 2 Was Too Long and Too Repetitive, GoW Deserved to Win; My GOTY Was Spider-Man

The name of director Josef Fares has been brightened in the past by introducing simple games with distinctive ideas that have achieved outstanding success, either A Way Out or Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. While he is currently working on a new project and always prefers to develop storytelling, the developer spoke at Gamelab 2019 About the future of games of this kind and the best experiences of the past.

Josef Fares was present at the event alongside developer David Cage and talked about the three most famous games last year, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spider-Man.

The director confirmed that his favorite game was Spider-Man, despite admiring what he presented in God of War, where he sees the right to win the title of “Game of the Year” because of the risks taken by the development team led by director Cory Barlog, asserting at the same time that Sony has taken Bold steps after completely changing the direction of the chain, which is risky in AAA games but has brought fruit. On the other hand, Josef Fares explained that the Red Dead Redemption 2 is wonderful in a number of ways but offers very long events and has seen a repetition of the task design by going out to shoot someone and then returning to the camp again. This is perhaps the main reason for the victory of God of War .

In fact, Spider-Man does not prefer it because it’s the best in events, but because of its duration. God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 offer very long events that do not suit everyone who has a family or has enough time to finish the whole story. Although God of War won the Game of the Year award at the Game Awards, the total number of “Game of the Year” awards earned 173 titles versus 181 Red Dead Redemption 2 titles, while Spider-Man got just 19 Title only.
