Teddy, a golden retriever from South Carolina, has become a trending TikTok sensation due to his incredible doghouse created by his owner, Jonathan Lower, also known as John Lower The Home Project Guy on Instagram. Lower transformed an old utility closet under the stairs into a luxurious den for Teddy, complete with a flat-screen TV, fireplace, and a custom portrait of the adorable pup hanging over the mantle. Lower, a real estate agent, reveals that he got the inspiration for Teddy’s dream house during a walk-through with a client who had a playhouse for their daughters under the stairs. The idea popped into his head to create a dog house exterior with a doggy door leading into the space. If MTV Cribs had a canine version, Teddy’s pad would undoubtedly steal the show.

Creating a Luxury Doggy Room
According to Lower, the process of creating Teddy’s amazing living space began with the interior. He built a custom bed for the golden retriever, complete with slide-out drawers, custom fairy lights featuring golden retrievers, new lighting, shiplap, a functional fireplace, TV, and a custom portrait. After completing the interior of the special room, Lower proceeded to construct the stone and craftsman-style exterior in the hallway of the home, which he finished off with a personalized mat. However, creating Teddy’s suite was not a quick DIY project. Lower stated that the interior took approximately a week and a half of evening work, while the exterior required a full day to complete.

Lower acknowledges that because he lives alone with Teddy, he directs all his extra attention and affection towards his furry friend until he finds a dog mom for him. Spoiling Teddy comes effortlessly, especially with all the cuddles he provides. Lower reveals to Daily Paws that he has lost his young sister, grandpa, aunt, and father in recent years, but through it all, Teddy has been a constant source of comfort and companionship. he says, “Teddy has been there for me and I couldn’t repay him enough.
